*** Brent Mickum is the American attorney for long-time British residents Jamil el-Banna and Bisher al-Rawi.

Mr Mickum is a businessman and partner with the Washington firm of Spriggs & Hollingsworth. He has security clearance and is a former special United States attorney with the Department of Justice. He was the first attorney to volunteer to take some of the habeas corpus cases after the supreme court's decision to grant prisoners at Guantanamo access to the federal courts to contest their detention.

He has been to Guantanamo on six different occasions. He formerly represented British citizen Martin Mubanga who was summarily released by the British upon his repatriation.
